Abstract
Early this year when we discussed possible subjects for the 1969 ESLAB/ESRIN Symposium, ESRO was in a position quite different from that during previous years. In 1968 we successfully launched three European satellites, and even if this still looks like a rather moderate achievement compared with the large number of missions performed by the U.S. and the Soviet Union and even if some national satellites had been flown earlier in Europe, it was for us a substantial step forward. It was therefore natural that our Symposium this year should take this into account, in particular since we had the three satellites, ESRO I, ESRO II and HEOS A, operating at the same time. All three satellites basically deal with solar-terrestrial relations and therefore the Symposium will also deal with this subject.
