Abstract
In these lectures I shall concentrate on those aspects of Stellar Evolution which appear relevant to the study of the structure and the evolution of the Galaxy. I shall not review the techniques used for the numerical computation of stellar evolution, but will assume that the interested reader can consult standard reference works for such topics. The lectures by Professor Ledoux discuss the formation of stars from the interstellar gas. Here we shall be concerned with the reverse process, in which stars lose mass back to the interstellar medium. We shall also be interested in late stages of evolution of stars in which they have properties especially interesting for the determination of galactic distances and we shall discuss the properties of some of the endpoints of stellar evolution.
