Abstract

We have already noted that in his ethical studies, Scheler was intensely interested in determining the structure of man and the living ethical relations which bind man as a social being to other men. The ethical relations of man were not the sole concern of Scheler, however, for his investigations extend into the whole problem of sociality in general and specific social relations in particular. Guided by his analysis of man as a being living in two spheres, the “vital” and the “spiritual,” Scheler undertook to give a detailed account of the various types of community in which each man is ontologically engaged.
