Abstract
In previous publications (Jongbloet 1968, 1969) we pointed out that the investigator confronted with mentally retarded human progeny should pay strict attention to the time and circumstances under which fertilization concerned took place. The possibility that overripeness of the ovum is the cause of a number of congenital dysplasias, with or without chromosomal aberrations, was postulated. Classical theories on heredity cannot explain some important facts such as the causes of the increased frequency of congenital aberrations in primiparous women as well as with rising age of the mother. Also the basis of discordant occurrence of such abnormalities in one-egg twins is not understood. All attempts to explain these facts by exogenic factors have failed so far.
