Aggregated States of Membrane Proteins of Photosynthetic Organelles

Abstract

There is continuing interest in the category of proteins, termed ‘structural1 or ‘organizer’ proteins, that are thought to form the backbone of membranes (see, e.g., LENAZ 1968, CRIDDLE & WILLEMOT 1969, CRIDDLE 1969, KAPLAN & CRIDDLE 1971). Whether such proteins have an exclusively structural role or also serve as a template for organization of other biochemical functions is not yet clear though the second is most likely if only for cons i de rat ions of cell economy.
