Abstract

Various extrinsic fluorescent probes have provided a dynamic read-out of energy-linked phenomena in several types of biological membranes (RUBALCAVA et al. 1969, FREEDMAN & RADDA 1969, KASAI et al. 1969, VANDERKOOI & MARTONOSI 1969, PACKER et al. 1969, CHANCE et al. 1969, AZZI 1969, CHANCE & LEE 1969, GITLER et al.1969,BROCKLEHURST, et al. 1970). The application of fluorescent probes for the study of proteins and membranes has been discussed in detail (CHANCE 1970, CHANCE et al. 1971, WAGGONER & STRYER 1970) and excellently reviewed (RADDA 1971).
