Abstract

Chlorophyll b (C b ) is known to be mainly associated with photosystem 2, whereas there are some indications that its occurrence may even be restricted to this particular system. For a review see HIND & OLSEN (1968). In an earlier paper (THOMAS & BRETSCHNEIDER 1970) approximate red absorption spectra of C b in spinach chloroplast fragments at 77°K have been shown for non-fractionated preparations as well as sodium deoxycholate (DOC)-treated ones enriched in each of both photosystems. For all these cases the same peak location and half width value have been observed. It has been argued that these data are in line with those of THORNBER et al. (1967), suggesting that C >b is associated with a single photosystem, system II, exclusively.
