Abstract
Ecological aspects of the afforestations in the Western Mediterranean countries.
Two main problems, the changing of the natural environment after the afforestation and limiting geofactors for afforestations, are discussed for different projects in Northern Morocco. Some observations, made in Spain, Portugal and Tunisia, are added.
Even among recent afforestations remarkable changes, concerning soils, vegetation layers and ecoclimate, can be established, nevertheless it seems still too early to give definite answers. The two chosen examples point out furthermore, that even in close adjacent places a quick alternation of dominant geofactors is characteristic. Before rational land managements, not necessarily refering to forests but also to grazing or even food crops, small scale investigations of the natural resources and their dynamics are indispensable.
