Abstract
Whoever put the above advertisement in the paper obviously took it for granted that a swimming-teacher was able to teach swimming. For reasons unknown he even demanded that possible applicants should be able to put into practice what they were expected to teach others. Besides this the teacher could have been required to master rescue swimming, to be trained in first aid, to know something about the anatomy and physiology of arm and leg muscles, and to have studied history of swimming — I do not know what they teach swimming-teachers today.
Was sie gestern gelernt, das wollen sie heute schon lehren; Ach, was haben die Herrn doch für ein kurzes Gedärm !
Wanted a swimming-teacher who can swim himself.
