Abstract

The 60th anniversary of Einstein’s Special Theory seems to be an appropriate occasion to ask ourselves the question: how do we look upon this theory today, in particular, do we still believe in

  1. (i)

the truth of the two principles used by Einstein to establish the Lorentz group (LG), and

  2. (ii)

the necessity of using them for this purpose.

Contribution to Internationales Seminar über Probleme der relativistischen Physik, organized by the Theoretisch-Physikalisches Institut der Friedrich-Schiller Universität Jena and held in Georgenthal, February 15–27, 1965. Reprinted from Wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Reihe 15 (1966), 109–118.
