Abstract
When I agreed to review the ten “Prospective Studies” I conceived of my task not as one of summarizing and evaluating the papers (although this could not be entirely avoided) nor did I consider it my task to open a polemical discussion with regard to every argument advanced in support of conclusions and proposals. Instead I propose to draw attention to some of the most salient statements made in the papers, either because they are statements which appeared frequently or because they stand out as being particularly contradictory.
