Abstract
As confusion may arise concerning the names of the scales, it seems useful to point out that I adopted the nomenclature as used by Smith (1946) and Peters (1964). For nomenclature of head scales I may refer to several drawings in Smith (1946). I subsequently present an alphabetical list of the families of lizards and amphisbaenians, adding for each the methods used to obtain the various scale counts.
