Abstract

The distortion of an em wave field by a satellite such as GEOS and its attendant sheaths creates problems in interpreting AC electric field measurements, especially with electric sensors which may not extend beyond the region of perturbed plasma. In order to gain insight into this, a simple model of a spherical cavity in a cold magneto plasma is considered. Equations are derived which relate the amplitudes, phases and directions of the perturbed and unperturbed fields.
