Abstract

Using Hammersteins method for solving nonlinear integral equations a procedure for a combined preliminary and definitive orbit determination of artificial earth satellites has been developed. A computer programme has been written which can at present use photographic and distance measurements. Orbit determination is done with respect to an inertial frame of reference. The usual reductions (polar motion, parallactic refraction etc.) can be applied. The model of the force field is now restricted to the gravitational field of the Earth (spherical harmonics expansion up to any order and degree), but will be extended to include air drag (CIRA 72), lunisolar attraction, radiation pressure and major geodynamical effects.
