The Night Airglow Or Nightglow

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Geophysics and Astrophysics Monographs ((EPIS,volume 8))

Abstract

Our wandering planet is sheathed in a nocturnal glow that usually goes unnoticed. The glow is due to a variety of physical causes and, although it is often referred to as the night airglow or nightglow, it is probably better to speak of a number of night-glows, not only because of their numerous physical origins but also because of the multiplicity of their temporal and geographical changes.
