Abstract
The program of the Summer Advanced Study Institute in 1972 reflected the evolution of interests in the broad field of physics and chemistry of the atmospheres. The pending problems of aurora and airglow received less attention but the complex and important aspects of chemistry and dynamics in the mesosphere and stratosphere received well deserved treatment and so did the young science, born with the space age, of the atmospheres of other planets in the solar system.
