Abstract

Spectrophotometer studies of the Na layer in twilight, made at Uppsala during 1960–70, have shown that the mean peak height of the layer varies between ≃ 86 and ≃ 92 km during one 11 yr sunspot period. The lowest values are recorded during sunspot maximum. This height variation is interpreted as a periodic change of the atmospheric density profile. It is concluded that the highest density at the level of Na layer appears during sunspot minimum.
