Abstract

Upper atmospheric aerosols contribute to many observable optical phenomena and their existence was speculated as early as the late 1800’s. Nevertheless, systematic quantitative measurements have only been made during the last decade and a half, and there is still a paucity of information concerning their origin and composition.
