The Morphology of Regular Block Copolymers

  • Chapter
The Physics of Glassy Polymers

Part of the book series: Materials Science Series ((MASCSE))

Abstract

It is general knowledge that polymeric materials exhibit a wide range of properties. Thus they can display the properties of a viscous liquid or that of a glass according to temperature (and at a given temperature, according to the time scale of the test). In between these two extremes lies perhaps the most typical macromolecular property of all: the rubbery behaviour characterised by low modulus but very high, recoverable extensibility. These are all properties characteristic of amorphous polymers. To these can be added properties associated with crystalline materials in cases where the polymer is intrinsically capable of crystallising and is given a chance to do so.
