Abstract

In this chapter a brief survey of the tradition of geometrical analysis in Antiquity will be attempted. It will appear that although geometrical analysis was sometimes used as a methodological paradigm, frequently mathematicians’ and philosophers’ interpretation of the geometrical method was conversely influenced by their philosophical and methodological ideas1.
