Abstract
Before discussing problems of star formation and star destruction it will be as well to describe some of the more important features of stellar evolution. We begin at a very early stage, when an object has recognisably become a star. This means that the object is opaque and violent mass motions have ceased. It is supported by gas and/or radiation pressure against collapse under self-gravitation.
