Abstract
Prior to the establishment of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United States Air Force (USAF) foresaw the need for acquiring improved technical data on lunar surface features. To this end the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratory (AFCRL) instituted several lunar projects.
