Abstract
The effects of temperature and CO2 concentration on the growth and gas exchange of soybean plants were studied in phytotrons. Growth of soybean plants can be greatly enhanced by CO2 enrichment when temperatures are optimum for growth. Photosynthesis was negatively correlated with mesophyll resistance, starch content, and specific weight of leaves. There was no correlation between photosynthesis and stomatal resistance. With suboptimal temperatures, leaf sections in CO2-enriched air showed a more dense palisade layer and high starch accumulation.
