Abstract
Extinction curves for silicate-core ice-mantle grains are computed and compared with the infrared spectral data on the BN object in the Orion nebula. A ratio of outer mantle to core radius of 1.3 which best fits this data suggests that silicate-core ice-mantle grains are unlikely to contribute a major part to the total visual extinction coefficient of interstellar material.
