Part of the book series: Homogeneous Catalysis in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry ((CMCO,volume 1))

Abstract

Transition metal hydrides which are active in hydrogen transfer and catalysis, e.g. (1)–(9), very generally carry stabilising ligands such as

a phosphine, carbonyl, cyanide or π-cyclopentadienyl, capable of retrodative π-bonding. Ligands of this type are, however, not altogether essential. The pent amine hydridorhodium derivative (10) for example, is known as stable salts [1], and the hydride reacts readily with ethylene, propene or but-1-ene to give adducts (11), (R = Et, Pr, Bu), which have been characterised [1].
