Abstract
Cosmic ray research has become predominantly a branch of astrophysics. Under this aspect, the origin and transfer of cosmic ray particles through interstellar space are the objects of main interest. In trying to understand these phenomena one soon is lead to the conclusion that the structure and dynamics of cosmic magnetic fields have to be studied in advance. Specifically the structure of the galactic fields has to be known. In working on the structure of magnetic fields one eventually finds out that it is necessary to have basic information on the other constituents of the galaxy as well. This is due to the fact that the magnetic fields are coupled to the interstellar plasma which in turn through gravitational forces is linked to the distribution of stellar matter.
