Abstract
In the first of these companion papers of this conference, I have emphasized the mechanisms of supernovae without particular emphasis upon either Type I or II supernovae, but at least outlined the difference between these; namely that the Type I’s occur in old population stars, have a rapid rise time, and show no hydrogen in their spectra, and Type II supernovae appear in young Type I population stars, have much slower rise in light curves and slower decay, hydrogen in the spectra, and apparently are considerably more massive both because of the time to evolution and the localization of their occurrence in the leading edge of spiral arms as well as in the population of stars in which they occur.
