Abstract

This review lays the foundations for the experiments that later papers will discuss. I shall emphasise certain features of elementary kinetics which seem open to doubt or where assumptions are frequently made without circumspect consideration of their validity. I shall then go on to discuss the laboratory methods available for the kinetic study of reactions of atmospheric significance.
