Abstract
In general the invertebrate fauna of Nile areas is not sufficiently known to allow for zoogeographical reflections or conclusions. In the wake of explorers of Africa came also botanists and zoologists. The flora and the vertebrates attracted more attention than invertebrate groups. Yet a number of Tact finding’ expeditions, e.g. a Swedish and an Austrian led by Werner, supplied a number of papers on terrestrial and some aquatic groups; collections in museums allowed later for early monographs. But these are out-dated and to examine them critically would be a huge undertaking. What has been done in the field of terrestrial fauna of the Sudan and Egypt reflects the dry character of most of the Nile area e.g. in a number of insect groups.
