Ore Grade Distributions and Conditional Simulations — Two Geostatistical Approaches

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((ASIC,volume 24))

Abstract

Geostatistics proposes two approaches to the important problem of the unbiased estimation of ore characteristics fluctuations:

  • — a global approach which provides the various required distribution laws

  • — a local approach which simulates the spatial regionalization of the ore true characteristics.

This article will stress the prerequisites and limitations of the simulation approach and try to define new directions of research in order to weaken these requirements and enlarge the field of applications.
