Abstract
The ingestion of sodium fluoresceinate increases the luminous efficacy of near ultraviolet light: the ultraviolet photons, which are almost without visual effect, are in fact converted by means of fluorescence into visible photons of a longer wave-length. This effect is proven by two methods; one objective method: fluorescence electroretinography which shows the appearance of an electrical response after administration of sodium fluoresceinate; one subjective method: absolute photoptometry in ultraviolet light shows that the absolute threshold of luminance is lowered after ingestion of a fluorescent product which acts as a ‘photonic adapter’.
