Abstract

In the past years the partial reflection (PR) method has been used to derive electron density profiles and (in the case of complex amplitude detection) simultaneously electron neutral collision frequency profiles in the ionospheric D-region [1]. In the following it is shown that PR measurements are also very useful in determining dynamical properties of the neutral atmosphere in the height region between 60 and 90 km. The measurements which should be interpreted in this way, have been obtained with the PR-installation at Tromsø [2] between April and October 1975. From this time period only those days have been selected which are quiet with respect to magnetic and particle activity. Therefore, the results should be valid to a certain extent, also for the D-region and mesosphere of lower latitudes.
