Abstract

It is proposed to observe the J = 2 to J = 0 transition of molecular hydrogen at 28 μ with a Fabry Perot (Δλ ∿ 100 Å) in the survey mode as well as in the pointing mode of the Dutch satellite IRAS which is scheduled for launch in 1981. A discussion will be given on the astrophysical importance of this measurement as well as an outline of the technical feasibility.
