Abstract
The theory of ranges of action as developed here includes both a general and a more specialised part; the former is discussed in the present chapter and the latter in Chapter 9. As these terms themselves suggest, principles and theorems developed for the general part also hold for the more specialised part, but not conversely. The area of application of the special part will be described in Chapter 9.
