Towards the end of Chapter 1 (p. 65), I mentioned an important problem area which concerns how the legal situation involving one or more people can change from one time to another—for example, by promise, contract, decision of an authority, and so forth. What is involved here is the movement of a pair 〈p,F〉 or a triple 〈p, q, F〉 from one type to another, and it is movements of this kind which constitute the subject of the remaining part of the book.
