Symbols and Logical Rules

Part of the Synthese Library book series (SYLI, volume 112)

The basic logical apparatus which will be used in the theory of basic types of legal positions (Chapters 3–5) is essentially the same as that used by Kanger in his theory of atomic types of right which has already been introduced in Chapter 1 (above pp. 38 ff.). The aim of the present chapter is partly to give a survey of the symbols and logical rules which I shall use, and partly to give a short commentary on the two important operators Do and Shall. The chapter is primarily aimed at readers who are not already familiar with the logic of Do and Shall.
