Explanations, Identities, and Theories
In the first section of this chapter I will discuss certain aspects of the logical structure of explanations. The second section will continue the discussion of kinds and attributes, which was begun in Chapter 1. I will show how to distinguish synthetic thing-identities and attribute-identities from nomological co-extensionalities. This section will also examine conditions under which different law-sentences express the same law. Finally, in Section C, I will describe some general features of the structure of scientific theories, and I will state a sufficient condition for two explanatory derivations to represent the same explanation.
