Abstract
Certain terms are used as primitives in many of the systems we shall consider. We can conveniently deal with these terms, and others definable from them, before we introduce the primitives that differentiate the several systems from one another. The present chapter is thus concerned with the study of terms belonging to the common apparatus of many systems.
