Schematic classification of radiation injury

  • H Balner

Abstract

Radiation injury occurs at the time of exposure. The visible or measurable effects on an organism are revealed as signs or symptoms occurring after a certain latent period. Groups of symptoms are sometimes called syndromes or diseases (e.g. “radiation sickness”). For our further discussions it might be helpful to recapitulate briefly the major types of radiation injury and mention the factors which may influence their time of appearance and severity.
