Abstract
The liberal arts held a prominent position in medieval education. They were referred to as the septennium (seven) which was divided into the trivium (three) and the quadrivium (four). The trivium included grammar, rhetoric and dialectics, and the quadrivium comprised arithmetic, geometry, music and astronomy.
