Abstract
Japan’s most striking landform is its mountainous region, which includes some plains and intermontane depressions. The Hida, Kiso and Akaishi mountains, respectively called the Northern Japan Alps, Central Japan Alps and Southern Japan Alps, are found in central Honshu. These mountains are high and are surrounded by steep slopes (Figure 4.1).
