Globular Clusters (GC) probably formed within 1-2 Gyr from the Big Bang, so that their absolute ages provide a lower limit to the age of the universe. On the other hand, their age dispersion (i.e. relative ages) depends on the mechanism of galaxy formation and evolution. In this context accurate distances to GGC are fundamental because
