Abstract
A short outline of the history, recent progress, and the activities of the Astronomische Gesellschaft is given. It is to supplement the previous and much more comprehensive descriptions given by Seggewiss (1982) and Schmeidler (1988). Some emphasis is put on the situation in Eastern Germany during the time of the German separation.
