Abstract
The interface of biology and materials encompasses a wide array of topics. The two main categories inclusive to this subject are materials applied in biological systems and materials produced through biological means. Materials associated with the former topic can include medical implants, polymeric drug carriers, and surgical glues while the latter category can include synthetic materials usually formed chemically. In this chapter, two areas of increasing interest will be reviewed: first, the enzymatic synthesis of polymers, and second, the incorporation of enzymes into polymers.
