Abstract

La1.85M0.15CuO4 (M = Ba, Sr) have been dissolved in LaMA1O4 diamagnetic matrices and the corresponding EPR signals have been studied. When the copper is in a tetrahedral site (LaBaA1O4 matrix, β-K2SO4), its hyperfine structure is observed (for dilutions in the range of 1% and 3%). When copper is in octahedral position of structure (LaSrA1O4 matrix, K2NiF4), a signal of orthorhombic symmetry is seen. It is broadened by magnetic interactions that can develop in this structure and the h.f. structure is not resolved. An underlying contribution (S=3/2) assigned to clusters involving Cu3+ must be considered in both cases. It is not presently known whether this could be related to superconductivity or not.
