Abstract

A short review is presented of the dissipative and radiative MHD, electromagnetic and plasma kinetic scaling approaches which are useful for sorting out different physical processes according to their relative importance. The ‘velocity-emission’ ratio Ve, the Faraday number F and ‘Trieste numbers’ T are described together with more familiar dimensionless parameters. The concepts of the turbosphere and turbopause around the Sun are outlined.
