The Group Aspect of Youth Crime and Youth Gangs in Brussels: What we do Know and Especially What we Don’t Know

  • Chapter

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to provide a brief overview of the gang situation in Brussels. This task is not easy because knowledge on this subject is very limited and we have more questions than answers. For this reason we will put the subject of gangs in a larger context. First, we will situate Brussels in the Belgium context. Second, we will give general information on youth crime in Brussels. Third, we will focus on the group aspect of youth crime, and finally we will discuss the topic of gangs. Gangs are treated here as one particular form of youth group.
