Abstract
The CP-PACS project was carried out over the five years from April 1992 to March 1997 to develop a massively parallel computer for performing numerical research in computational physics with primary emphasis on lattice QCD. The CP-PACS computer with a peak speed of 614 GFLOPS with 2048 processors was completed in September 1996, and has been in full operation since October 1996. After a short introduction to lattice QCD and a short description on the background of the project, details of the CP-PACS computer are given. The CP-PACS has been mainly used for hadron spectroscopy production runs. The performance for lattice QCD applications and the LINPACK benchmark are given.
