Abstract
Infectious diseases represent great danger for human health. Surveillance of diseases is a method that can partly solve this threat and contribute to health improvement. Fundamental elements of surveillance are data collection, analysis, interpretation and distribution of information. Communicable disease surveillance in the Czech Republic has a long history.
