Abstract

The challenge of the present knowledge of the electronic structure on investi@@@@@ gations of fundamental properties of the mechanism of superconductivity in nonmagnetic rare earth transition metal borocarbides(nitrides) is discussed with respect to somewhat unexpected similarities with as well as to clear differences from the high temperature cuprate superconductors.

  1. In the present context we use the notation “exotic superconductors” for systems in which superconductivity appears anomalous and where the precise mechanism of electron pairing remains controversial. To the best of our knowledge, there are two recent review papers [2,3] where cuprates and borocarbides have been considered briefly from a common phenomenological point of view and one work devoted to many-body aspects with respect to the strengths of correlations [4 4]. The relationship to increasing detailed knowledge of LDA-electronic structure is lacking so far.
